That's a quote from a House Ways & Means official when asked about increasing school funding just a month ago.
Last week, Ways & Means approved $175 MILLION in new education spending!!!
You don't suppose it had anything to do with the 25,000 emails we sent them, do you?
Maybe it was the 500 phone calls....
Who knows? Maybe that guy just looked into his heart and realized that spending almost $800 less per child than the law requires just wasn't right.
That explanation raises the question: what took so long? It's been years since South Carolina made the nation's biggest cuts to education.
He wasn't the only one having trouble seeing it, either. For the second year in a row, State Supt. Mick Zais refused to ask legislators to increase base-student cost, even though we had a budget surplus.
Is the glass half-full or half-empty?
We're still hundreds of millions of dollars behind where we were in funding back in 2005.
But people who care about public schools are all done waiting around for policymakers to do the right thing. We're letting them know that it is past time to reprioritize education, and we're doing an incredible job of it.
That's nothing but good.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO WROTE, CALLED, OR SIGNED A PETITION!!!
You have made a difference in the lives of children.
